18TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PREIMPLANTATION GENETICS – PGDIS

April 2019

Istanbul Memorial Hospital ART & Reproductive Genetics Center conducted a number of scientific activities at 18th International Conference on Preimplantation Genetics organized by Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society (PGDIS) in Geneva, Switzerland between 15-18 April 2019.

Prof. Semra Kahraman, Head of the Department of IVF and Reproductive Genetics Center at Memorial Şişli Hospital, was invited as the keynote speaker and shared the data of the Memorial Hospital IVF Center, entitled “Impact of Severe Male Infertility on Chromosomal Status of Embryos and Pregnancy Outcome in Younger Women”. She emphasized that the most severe forms of male infertility, especially non-obstructive azoospermia, increase the rate of chromosomal abnormality in embryos in cases with young female partners at the age of 35 years and this increase is significant in the chromosomes especially 2,11,21. Therefore, she emphasized the necessity of preimplantation genetic diagnosis of embryos in severe male infertility without female age factor.

Prof. Joe Leigh Simpson, PGDIS Ex - Officio, in his summary of the previous day's speeches, giving a place to this subject, suggested that PGT should be recommended in severe male infertility, and suggested that the chromosomal recombination and chromosome fractures should be investigated extensively in these cases. Dr. Kahraman participated in the Board Meeting of PGDIS, of which she was also a founding member and served as president between 2013-2015. In addition, she directed a session titled ''PGT in Different Social Settings “ along with Prof.Samir Hamamah.

Head of Reproductive Genetics Department Dr. Murat Çetinkaya successfully represented our department at the same meeting by making a total of five oral presentations, one of which was the pre-congress course main speech, and a poster presentation.
